When children know their rights, they can speak up. When communities know how to protect them, children are safer.
For Sambhav Trust, child protection is not only about responding when a child is in danger. It is about building communities where children know their rights, have the confidence to raise their voices, and are surrounded by adults and institutions ready to listen and act.
Working in the rural and tribal communities of Khunti, an Aspirational District of Jharkhand, we bring children, families, Anganwadi workers, community leaders and government systems together to strengthen local child protection mechanisms.
In collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Khunti, Sambhav Trust has worked with 95 Anganwadi Sevika across revenue villages to revive and strengthen Village Level Child Protection Committees. These community platforms help identify risks and take action on issues such as human trafficking, unsafe migration, child marriage, child labour and school dropout.
Creating Children Who Can Speak Up
We believe children should not only be protected by adults—they should also have the knowledge, confidence and opportunity to protect themselves and support others.
Through child rights awareness, conversations, leadership activities and community participation, we encourage children and adolescents to understand their rights and become voices for change in their own villages.
Exposure visits to the DCPU Khunti, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Torpa Block and Police Station help children understand where they can seek support, whom they can approach, and how the child protection system works. These experiences turn unfamiliar institutions into spaces that children can approach with greater confidence.
Ensuring Vulnerable Children Are Not Left Behind
Our work is closely aligned with Mission Vatsalya and its focus on children in need of care and protection. At the community level, we identify vulnerable children and connect them with appropriate government services, welfare schemes and protection mechanisms.
We have supported orphan and single-parent children to access sponsorship support under Mission Vatsalya, helping them remain connected to family-based care, education and essential support.
For us, sponsorship is more than financial assistance. It is about ensuring that a child facing difficult circumstances is not left behind—and has the opportunity to continue learning, growing and dreaming about their future.
Strengthening the Community Around Every Child
We work with parents, caregivers, frontline workers and community leaders so that risks are recognised early and children receive the support they need.
We see every child not simply as a beneficiary, but as a potential community change-maker.
